Common pitfalls in renovations and how to avoid them

To the inexperienced DIY eye, a renovation, like a new bathroom, can seem like a simple project. But virtually every single time, the work that confronts the keen DIYer is actually a whole lot more than they bargained for. The average Christchurch house is 60 years old, which means once you start taking out old showers or shifting walls, you’re very likely to encounter rot, borer, and/or walls that aren’t plumb and uneven floors.

All that means extra work, and that’s why our experience is so valuable. As professional builders, we’ll expect and plan for it – but you might not.

With Park Terrace Construction on the job, your project will run smoothly and be finished much faster. So whatever renovation you have in mind, from bathrooms to additions, resist the temptation to DIY. Believe us – your family will thank you.

Your recladding specialists

Leaky homes are our specialty. We can restore the value of your property with your choice of finishes that will make your home better than new. At our latest reclad, this time in Oxford, we replaced the direct-fix poly with a high-quality thermally broken cladding system.

We’ll save you time, money and stress

Once you’ve decided what you want to do and intend to go ahead with your renovation, it’s time to get in touch with us. We can give you a clear and accurate understanding of the time frame and costs involved, and help you get the result you want. For example, a bathroom renovation can involve up to six separate trades, whose costs need to be allowed for and their work coordinated efficiently. When we’re involved, you won’t be hit with unexpected cost overruns or frustrating delays.

Light-commercial renovations

Our latest commercial project is installing 16 new bathrooms at a backpackers’ lodge near the Stadium. This project is another perfect example of why working with people who know what they’re doing is a must. This is an older building, and the owners of the lodge needed to have their project completed quickly and cost-effectively so it could reopen as soon as possible. As well as experience and project management skills, top-quality workmanship was essential too. These bathrooms need the durability to cope with thousands of guests over the next few years.
