Sometimes a bit of time away from the tools can return benefits for your business. I was reminded of that recently when my young family joined five other family groups of friends for a little well-earned downtime at Denarau in Fiji.
With your head out of the game and some separation from the day-to-day details that seem to occupy so much time, you can bring your vision for your business into sharper focus and think more clearly about the future. And for us that future is looking very busy, so a bit of time recharging after a hectic winter was very welcome too.
I was really proud to see that the Park Terrace Construction team back home functioned perfectly while we were away. They’re super capable and took on the responsibility of keeping everything moving brilliantly. Thank you very much guys!
Ben the Builder
I am also really proud to report that Ben, who has been a fantastic team member ever since he started with me as a keen 17-year-old, has completed his apprenticeship and is now a fully qualified builder. That’s great work and a testament to Ben’s amazing work ethic and skill as a tradesman. With this valuable qualification under his belt, Ben is off to Europe for a look around at the end of the year, but he’s welcome to come back to work with us anytime. We’ll miss you mate.

The Shadowclad Saga
Shadowclad was a very popular cladding material in the 90s, but it hasn’t aged at all well with lots of houses suffering delamination of the plywood outer layer due to moisture ingress. There was an attempted class-action against its manufacturer, but it was dropped before any settlement was made. At the moment we’re fixing a botched 2013 EQC repair job on a Shadowclad home by recladding its upper storey.
We’re also cleaning up someone else’s mistake on a nice cedar-clad house where the builder had used galvanised nails when they should have been stainless. It’s the little details that sometimes turn into big problems down the line, which is why we’re such sticklers for doing things the right way the first time.
We’re hiring!
With Ben on the move and the new year looking very busy we need to hire a qualified chippy. If you know of someone or you’d like to work with a fantastic team please get in touch with me asap at admin@parkterraceconstruction.co.nz.
We’ve got capacity
While next year is looking like it’s going to be off the hook busy, due to a delay beyond our control on a large project we have some spare capacity before Christmas. So if you have an urgent renovation or recladding job we might be able to help.
We work with families and property investors all over Christchurch on projects big and small, so if you have something in mind please get in touch for an obligation free chat.
